• Marine Corp Marathon Evaluation 5 stars = best
o Crowd support: The first 17 miles are incredible and the last two miles are wall to wall crowds. 18-22 can get lonely in parts. *****
o Organization: the Marines do a great job ****
o Course: The Washington Monuments and Georgetown area make this marathon unique ****
o Course hydration stations: Ultima is the drink used at Marine Corp. Personally think it taste bad and has hardly any carbohydrates. Gatorade and Powerade would be much better. Last 6 miles should have water stations every mile, especially with humidity levels instead of every two. **
o Temp: 90% humidity/ 62 degrees @ start/ windy on bridges: *
• JAMES’ marathon splits:  3:01.34 (95th correction) 5:46/6:03/6:01/6:02/5:44/5:55/5:55/6:01/       5:54/6:09 (59:32 through 10 miles)6:11/6:17/ 6:20/6:28/6:44/6:49/ 7:01/6:54/7:08/7:49 (2:07.18 through 20 miles) 8:36/8:00/9:02/10:34/8:20/8:13/ 86 seconds      Obviously went out too fast but severe cramps starting at 18 miles caused lots of stretching stops. The humidity played a big factor late in the race for many.
Hi fitness enthusiasts!

I ran my first marathon (Marine Corp) this past weekend and came away humbled. The race was an incredible experience and the crowd amazing. Being my first marathon it is easy to see how people get addicted to an event that literally questions your sanity and resolve. After finishing the marathon and spending 90 minutes in the medical tent with an IV in my arm and legs that continue to spasm beyond my control, I became resolved to attack this event that made my muscles paralyzed and unable to function. Despite this difficulty I know I will run another marathon (amazing how fast we forget…. especially mile 22) – the challenge is too great to pass up. The people you meet and the “war” stories shared, the mega hype of the marathon, and of course the challenge. I also was grateful that I ran my first marathon with the Leukemia Society’s Team in Training program. The coaches (Brett and Edna, Thanks!) and support staff (Tammy St. Clair) of the program made the trip and event easy to focus on. Plus the cause is great!
I recommend anyone, especially anyone doing their first one, to try the Team in Training Program.

Be Fit and congrats to everyone who finished Chicago and Marine Corp. Good Luck to everyone running Richmond!
Volunteer drawing of the month: Congrats to Christiansburg Cross Country Running volunteer Jack Horst who was a major help mowing the course and getting it ready for Christiansburg Home Invite. Jack received a $50.00 Gift Certificate to Runabout.
