| Hi fitness enthusiasts! This winter has been challenging to say the least. One of our goals as a running store was to have a winter series of races to keep runners and walkers motivated. The goal was to try and get one race a month. So this winter we started with the Frosty 5K in December. The second race is the Groundhog Scurry (two miles and 5.76 miles) which was suppose to be last week, but due to ice will be this Saturday on Valentine’s Day. The third race is the Blacksburg Classic on February 28th put on by the Blacksburg Striders. The Classic has a 10 miler, a 5K and a children’s mile. The last race is the Spring 4 miler on March 20th (the first day of Spring!). I believe having running and walking events keeps people motivated and getting out the door – perhaps the hardest endeavor of any fitness program. Winter months can be depressing so having a goal or activity can help make the winter go by faster and also not seem so bad. A few runners in the area had good ideas and ran winter marathons in warm climates like Phoenix Rock n’ Roll and Disney in Orlando. THIS WEEKEND: Lots of activities…. Virginia Tech hosts an indoor track meet Friday and Saturday. Some of the nations best college athletes will be there competing. Groundhog Scurry Running and Walking event on Saturday and trail work on Sunday. See calendar for more details. |

| Running Tip:Getting plenty of sleep at night is important, not just to feel better during the day, but also in the prevention of injuries. At night is when the body heals itself so if you’re not getting enough sleep your body isn’t getting the time it needs to rebuild and become stronger. | ||||||||||||
