Hi fitness enthusiasts!

On May 2nd (Sunday) the Dash for the Cure takes place at Margaret Beeks Elementary and will use the same 5K course that the Blacksburg Classic used. This event is a benefit for the American Cancer Society. VT Rec Sports, the Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine and your friends at Runabout Sports are putting the event on. The event is for runners and walkers. You can join a team or participate individually. Each team needs five members minimum. A team can have as many members as they can get and team members don’t have to be affiliated with the group/ organization. The winning team will be judged by the five fastest runners times being added up. The  team with the lowest time wins. HOWEVER. For every runner a team has they take one minute off their team time. So even someone walking will help their team time become better. Please come join us for a fun afternoon. Go to www.runaboutsports.com for entry forms and more information. There are entry forms also at McComas Hall and Runabout Sports.

CONGRATS to race director Katherine Phillips and the Blacksburg Striders for putting on a tremendous race in February. 440 people showed for the Blacksburg Classic 10 miler and 5K. For any participants that didn’t get a shirt they are now available at Runabout Sports.

Running Tip:
If you are experiencing burning pain in the ball of your foot it could be due to tight shoes (especially width). As a person runs the foot swells, if the foot becomes compacted, nerves in the middle of the foot become irritated and cause the burning sensation. An option to fix this problem is to alternate the laces skipping one to two holes. This will increase the volume of the shoe and give more room for the foot, eliminating the burning pain- hopefully.
