| Hi fitness enthusiasts! With school starting up, a sport often forgotten about starts. The cross country running season! There are often not many opportunities to run cross country races once out of high school and for a lucky few, college but Runabout Sports in cooperation with Virginia Tech’s cross country program is putting on the second Annual Cross Country Series. The series is six races and has three leagues. There is a league for everyone. The distances are 800 meters to 1.25 miles for the munchkin league, 2-4 miles for the recreation league, and 2-5 miles for the lightning league. The distance and course route varies each week. The cost is $2.00 for age 13 and above per race and FREE for 12 and under. It’s a great family event! Also don’t forget to come out and cheer for the VT men and women’s XC teams. They have home meets on September 5th and September 20th on the VT X-C course (by Smithfield plantation and the VT Vet School). Also VT men and women’s soccer teams have a new stadium- come check it out and see some great soccer!!! The first game (men) is against WAKE FOREST on September 5th (7:00 PM). Be Fit! Other news: Fall soccer registration is currently open! Sign up today. More information at www.nrusa.org. CONGRATULATIONS to Blacksburg’s Mary Jayne Harrelson who won the silver medal for the United States at the Pan Am Games!!! |

| Monthly Training Tip: Traveling to a race? Make sure to pack your running shoes, racing shoes and race clothing in your carry-on luggage. Since flying dehydrates us, bring a bottle of your favorite re-hydration drink (sports drinks). It’s also a good idea to bring your favorite pre-race foods and drinks with you so you don’t eat a pre race meal that your stomach is not accustomed to. |
