Below are some of the Staff Members that we have had at past camps.

 


Alexis Sharangabo (3:57 mile/ 13:57 5K), is a two time Olympian (1996, 2000) from Rwanda. He won six NAIA national titles while competing for Brevard College and is currently a volunteer coach with Virginia Tech and a member of VT Elite.

Aaron SaftAaron Saft ran for North Carolina State and was a member of the third place Wolf pack in 1999 and competed successfully in the steeple chase and mile indoors. Aaron ran 23:36 at the Norte Dame Invite for 8K (about 5 miles). He also ran 8:52 in the steeple and 4:08 in the mile. Aaron earned All ACC honors five times. Aaron placed 5th in the Richmond Marathon (2:27) and was the first American. 

 

Beth Saft ran for NC State and was a member of the second place Wolfpack in 2001 at NCAA Nationals. Ran 17:08 for 5K and 9:58 for 3K. Won All ACC honors in Cross Country. Curently attending Osteopathic Medical School at Virginia Tech.

 

Christina McIntyre is a professor at Virginia Tech and teaches advanced undergraduate courses such as Nutrition and Physical Performance. Christina has completed over 20 marathons including Boston, NYC and Honolulu. She has done the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon twice (over 2 mile ocean swim, 112 miles on a bike, and then 26.2 miles all in the same day!). She has won the Shut-in Trail Run and is the record holder for the Houston-Austin-Houston Cycling race (339 miles in 18 hrs, 19 min). Christina will help our campers have a better understanding of nutrition and how important it is for athletic performance.
 

Ann McGranaham (15:46 5K) is a former Big East X-C Champion, two time 10,000 meter champion and Atlantic Regional X-C Champion for Villanova University. Ann placed 4th at Fall X-C Nationals, 2nd at USATF New England X-C Championships, and 10th at the USATF 5000 meter championships. Ann has run 4:49 in the mile, 9:21 in the 3K and 15:46 in the 5K. Ann was the Florida High School Champion in cross country, the mile and 2 mile. Ann is training as a post collegiate athlete and runs for New Balance.

 

Ann McGranahamPhil Latter: Currently coaching at Radford University, Phil

competed at University of North Carolina Ashville. PRs: 1500m: 4:01, 3000m: 8:32, 5000m: 14:56, 8K XC: 25:27. Currently in his 4th year running for UNC-Asheville.  School record holder in the indoor 3K (8:32) and indoor 5K (14:58)...2003 Big South Champion in the outdoor 5000m...2003 NCAA East Regional Qualifier...2nd and 3rd place finishes in the 5K and 3K respectively at Big South Indoor Meet (2003).

 

Macy Little: competed for University of North Carolina- Asheville and currently attends medical school at Virginia Tech. Macy also an excellent tri-athlete.

 

Kim Milbourn: A former VT Hokie  runner. Kim demonstrated a diverse range of abilities in the steeplechase to the 10,000 meter run and was a leader for the Hokies.  Kim coaches at Christiansburg H.S. and teaches high school chemistry.

 

Matt Germain: Matt, a Coordinator of the Sisu Project (racing team), is a recent graduate of Fitchburg State College where he was a three year captain (voted captain 8 times). He was named to the New England Alliance All-Conference team 11 times and was named Conference Athlete of the Year in 2004 (selected from all sports). He currently coordinates his own running team the Sisu Project and works in Research and Development for New Balance. He is a high energy individual who is passionate about running.

 Kirsten Hagen: Competes for Florida State and graduated from Christiansburg H.S. where she was a state champion in the 3200 meter run. Kirsten has been a varsity runner for the Seminoles the past two seasons. Kirsten has run 4:32 for 1500 meters.

 

Allie Lewis: Currently a runner for William and Mary. Beginning her running career as a senior in high school, she climbed to the VA state competitions in cross country, indoor, and outdoor track. In her first year as a D-1 student athlete, she competed at high levels in both xc

and track, running a personal best of 4:39 in the 1500m. Aside from running, Allie enjoys a good soccer game, working at her neighborhood bakery, and meeting new people.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rob Tupper, D.P.M.

Coach Tupper is a foot doctor (podiatrist) that will be assisting with biomechanics, proper shoe fittings and speaking at the academy this year. Some of the lectures Dr. Tupper has done include lectures on heel pain, common foot problems, and orthotic control of abnormal biomechanical foot functions. Dr. Tupper also coaches cross country and is a runner himself.
